The Asociación Española de Fabricantes de Pasta, Papel y Cartón (ASPAPEL) presented the annual paper sector report.
The published figures have been very positive, with an increase in turnover of 8.6% (4,779 million euros), while the consumption of paper remains up for the fifth consecutive year.
Although the consumption of paper for printing and press has decreased by 16.2%, the rest of the papers are on the rise, especially the production of paper for corrugated cardboard, exceeding for the first time the 3 million tons, marking a new historical in the industry and what has meant 49% of the total production of the sector.
The first quarter of 2019, increases in the production of paper and cellulose are observed, which grow by 7.7% and 6.2%, respectively.
Electronic commerce and the demand of a better knowing and eco-friendly consumer have helped the increase in figures in this sector.
