CHITOSAN for Agriculture use

Corquimia Industrial presents CHITOSAN for use in agriculture.

It’s used o treat the seed naturally, promote the growth of plants, and as an ecologically friendly substance that enhances the ability of plants to defend against fungal infections.

The natural capacity of biological control of chitosan should not be confused with the effects of fertilizers or pesticides on plants or the environment

¿How does chitosan work?

Activates and strengthens the immune system of crops, chitin is an organic polymer polysaccharide, biosynthesized in several species of invertebrate animals, is the major compound of the exoskeleton of crustaceans, crabs and shrimps, among other organisms including insects and fungi; It is considered one of the most abundant biopolymers and is one of the substances with the highest production and degradation ratio in the biosphere.

This is why chitin plays an important role in the biogeochemical cycles of carbon and nitrogen, mainly in aquatic ecosystems, after the deacetylation of chitin, the resulting chitosan becomes polycationic in acidic media, this unusual quality for a biopolymer allows that the chitosan is able to form solutions and actively interact with various molecules.

Deacetylation determines most of the properties of chitosan including the solubility and degree of swelling in water, as well as the susceptibility to biodegradation, its bioactivity, and its biocompatibility among others, deacetylation influences all the functional properties of chitosan

The molecular weight of chitosan is a characteristic that has a determining influence on most of its functional properties, together with the degree of acetylation, it is the most important chemical characteristic of chitin and chitosan.

Chitosan is a basic substance with biostimulant characteristics, which represents a new level of profitable biological control of crops for agriculture and horticulture. Chitosan increases photosynthesis, promotes and potentiates the growth of the plant, stimulates the absorption of nutrients, increases the germination and increases the vigor of the plant.

When used as a seed treatment or coating of cottonseed, corn, potato seeds, soybeans, sugar beet, tomatoes, wheat, among others, it elicits an innate immunity response in developing roots that destroy nematodes parasites of the cyst.

The use of chitosan in agriculture can reduce environmental stress, due to drought and soil deficiencies, strengthens the vitality of the seed, increases the quality of crops and reduces the degradation of vegetables, fruits, and citrus crops.

Plants treated with chitosan will produce the enzyme chitinase, which is capable of breaking down chitin in the cell walls of invaders, and crops will recover better from disease and damage.
