INCI: ACRYLATES / BEHENETH-25 METHACRYLATE COPOLYMER
Is a anionic associative hydrophobically modified alkali soluble polymer emulsion (HASE) with unusually high aqueous thickening and stabilizing efficiency.
The polymer is supplied in liquid form that instantaneously thickens upon neutralization, providing ease of handling and increased manufacturing efficiency
Thicken the formulation by two mechanisms that can act simultaneously and synergistic, i.e. by the effect of charge-induced polyelectrolytic chain extension and by association or hydrophobe groups.
It provides appealing rheological characteristics thickening efficiency, high low-shear viscosity, and visually appealing flow stringiness characteristics depending on usage concentration level.
At low concentrations approximately 2 % (as supplied) high flow stringy rheology and at high concentrations approximately above 4%(as supplied) short flow and non-stringy rheology.

Formulation guideline
Acrypol ET-28 rheology modifier is a liquid and it is compatible with surfactants, oils, and other ingredients commonly found in detergent and cleanser products. As a result, manufacturers of detergents and cleaners have a great deal of flexibility in developing procedures for using Acrypol ET-28 in their formulations.
The physical character of Acrypol ET-28 rheology modifier (low viscosity liquid before neutralization), and its high thickening efficiency, permit it to be added to a mix at different stages.
Order of addition
We recommend the following general order of addition:
- Add Acrypol ET-28 polymer to the deionized water of the formulation
- Neutralize up to pH 7.0-7.5
- Add primary surfactants. (Example: Lauryl sulfates / Lauryl ether sulfates.)
- Add remaining (specialty) surfactants (Example: Amphoteric)
- Add conditioning and ancillary ingredients. (Example: Cationics, EDTA)
- If desired, add pearlizing ingredients. (Example: mica, EGDS, EGMS.)
- Add fragrance, colors, and preservatives
- If desired, decrease pH. (Citric acid is suggested)
- If desired, add sodium chloride to further increase viscosity
Note
- Acrypol ET-28 polymer works synergistically in the presence of salt.
- Low levels of sodium chloride (0,5 to 1.0 %) increase viscosity when the polymer is formulated with surfactants.
- Acrypol ET-28 polymer is compatible with a variety of cationic conditioning polymers in anionic/amphoteric surfactant systems.
- Acrypol ET-28 polymer has a remarkable ability to enhance the appearance and visual stability of pearlizing ingredients.
- The Polymer maturation time of 24 hours is required to get the desired viscosity
Compatibility with surfactants
Acrypol ET-28 is compatible with virtually all commercially utilized surfactants for example:
Sodium laureth 3-sulfate, Sodium linear alkyl benzene sulfonate, Sodium lauryl Sulfate, Ammonium laureth 3-Sulfate, Ammonium lauryl sulfate, Sodium lauroyl sarcosinate, Disodium laureth sulfosuccinate, Cocoyl isethionate/taurate blend, Cocamidopropyl Betaine, Lauryl glucoside, Disodium cocoamphoacetate, Disodium laureth sulfosuccinate, Cocamide MEA
Compatibility with cationic conditioners
Below are examples of conditioners that can be used with Acrypol ET-28.
Guar hydroxypropyl trimonium chloride, Polyquaternium-4, Polyquaternium-7, Polyquaternium-10, Polyquaternium-11, Polyquaternium-16, Polyquaternium-39
Note
• For products where clarity is a concern, Polyquaternium-10, Polyquaternium-11 and Polyquaternium-39 should be preferred.
• As a general rule, cationic surfactants may have limited compatibility with Acrypol ET-28 polymer.
• Low level of cetrimonium chloride is compatible with the polymer in a shampoo formulation.
Toxicology
Acrypol ET-28 polymer is a high molecular weight polymer and is suited for all types of personal care formulations, including those for baby care and for sensitive skin.
Storage and Handling
The ideal storage temperature is 5-40 “C. Do not freeze.
